There is nothing like giving gifts to raise that festive holiday spirit. Sometimes though, it is just so hard to shop because of the heavy traffic. Let alone the number of people who would be walking from shop to shop especially in the malls. It is just disappointing when you have thought of the perfect gift but it happens to be sold out.

You would want to give something that can make a person smile, something that he or she can enjoy for them self or share to the family. You would think food. Food is something everyone would want, something to make the season ‘sweeter’. It does not have to be very extravagant. All you need is a few baking supplies and start working.

Number one on the list are ginger bread cookies. That classic cookie with gum drops for buttons can make anyone smile. It is exactly like its original purpose. People in the olden days used to carve out shapes of people out of wood to make snow workers smile as they pass by it. Today, it still lives on but as a miniature version made from dough.

How about something sweet and salty at the same time? Chocolate-dipped pretzels are the choice. These are just plain pretzel sticks you can buy from the supermarket. Dip them in chocolate and you have the choice to add some toppings to it, maybe some sprinkles or some marshmallows then let it harden, simple as that.

During the festive season, it tends to get a little bit chilly outside. Why not give them a gift of cinnamon hot chocolate mix? Just put them in small packs and maybe buy a simple mug and place the package inside. People of all ages would love a hot drink on a cold winter’s day.

Christmas is never complete without the peppermint candy canes children love to taste. Plain candy canes might be found too simple, so add a little bit twist to it. You can dip it in chocolate and let it harden on the candy. These go very well with hot cocoa.

Last but not the least, if you would want something more personalized; why not try making name tag cookies? They are delicious to munch on and very creative. With the name on the cookie, they would surely be thankful that you thought of them and took your time in baking them.

Everyone loves to eat cake, which is nicely and perfectly decorated. But due to lack of decorating skill ones wish is not fulfilled up to the maximum level. Check out for some cake decorating tips that can help to make your cake more delicious.

Cake decorating tips and Ideas
Baking cakes can be difficult but decorating them can be more challenging. While decorating a cake one has to take into consideration number of factors like flavor, texture and design of the cake. Its very important that you know from where you have to start the cake decoration. This article can help you with some useful tips that can help you on your way to decorating sweet masterpieces.

•	It’s very important that you allow the cake to cool down after it is baked. Give yourself at least 30 minutes before starting to apply frosting on the cake.
•	You can use a whipped cream frosting to smoothen the decorating process.
•	It would be advisable to start from the corners of the cake – they are hardest to frost
•	Frost the sides of the cake with lots of icing and steady hands. Start icing with thin layers before moving to the thicker ones.
•	Apply dollops of icing in the corners and in the middle of the cake.
•	Make sure the knife only touches the frosting part and not the cake.
•	You can apply icing to the cake as necessary. Be careful not to smear the icing that you already applied.
•	Use strokes to spread the icing on the cake. If the icing is difficult to spread try dipping your knife in hot water, which makes the icing spread faster.
•	Style the frosting once it is applied by using a fork across the top of the cake to create a lattice effect. You can also use a knife to create swirls along the top edges of the cake.

It is one of the products the state is well known for and is something I grew up eating quite often, especially during the holidays. That was because we used to receive a 5-pound block of cheese every year as a Christmas present. Five pounds of cheese was a lot of cheese to eat, even for a family like ours who loved cheese but since we were usually given cheddar cheese I didn’t mind. Cheddar was my favorite cheese when I was a child and is still my favorite kind of cheese.

Most cheese curds (at least the ones made in Wisconsin) are a cheddar cheese product. And even though the name suggests they might be a “less than tasty” item, they are delicious! Cheddar cheese curds are basically what cheddar cheese is before it is pressed into a block and aged (cheddar cheese you see in your grocery store is aged – usually at least 60 days and up to several years). It’s a very fresh product (think baby cheese or newborn cheese!) and it tastes best when eaten as soon after being made as possible. In my opinion cheese curds taste best the same day they are made but that’s not an option for a lot of people. I’m lucky enough to live near several cheese factories that make cheese curds so I go purchase them on the days they make them.

Cheese curds are available in several flavors. Although the traditional yellow/orange cheese curds are the most popular and most widely available I’ve also seen and tried white cheddar cheese curds in addition to the following flavors: garlic, dill, jalapeno (they have a “kick” to them), Cajun (also have a “kick” to them), pesto, chipotle, and paprika. Cheese curds have a smooth texture. Plain cheese curds have a mild salty flavor. They come in their natural shape and form which is small random chunks.

Although most cheese curds are made from cheddar cheese, colby, mozzarella, and monterey jack cheese curds are available.

Although “fresh” cheese curds may be available at your local supermarket, it’s likely they are at least a week old by that time. Because cheese curds are a fresh cheese product they do start to lose their flavor fairly quickly. Cheese curds are best if eaten within a week of being made. If you don’t have the luxury of going directly to a cheese factory to buy fresh cheese curds order them online or by phone from a cheese factory that ships them the same day they make them. You’ll be glad you went to the trouble of ordering the freshest curds possible.

One fun thing about cheese curds is that they “squeak.” A fresh cheese curd will make a squeaky noise while you’re eating it. That’s one of the reasons why kids love to eat cheese curds.

Besides eating them fresh, another tasty way to eat a cheese curd is to deep-fry it (and yes, a deep-fried cheese curd is definitely not a “health food”). You can purchase special batter mixes made especially for cheese curds, but a general purpose batter mix like Golden Dipt All Purpose Batter Mix (made by McCormick) works fine. But personally, my favorite type of batter for deep fried cheese curds is a beer batter (can you tell I’m from Wisconsin?).

If you haven’t had the opportunity to taste a cheese curd yet, I highly recommend trying them. Even if you are not a huge fan of cheese, you’ll probably like cheese curds because they a fresh, mild-tasting product.

If you are planning a birthday party, a wedding or an event that requires entertaining others for any reason, then you know well what a challenge it can be to create a party that everyone will enjoy. You know all the details that go into planning a perfect event, and you are well aware that you cannot plan a great party carelessly. Instead, you need to be cautious about the details and take your time with each aspect of party planning. Choosing a dessert can be one of the most important yet hard decisions that gets made for events, but you cannot go wrong by choosing a chocolate cake.

The thing about all parties is that people expect to come and be filled with good food. You can have the most special games and activities planned for your party, but without a great menu in place people will leave your party disappointed and regretful. That is why it is important to take your menu planning seriously from appetizers and drinks to entrees and desserts. As a professional party planner, I often advise my clients to conside serving a chocolate cake for dessert. In fifteen years of planning great weddings and other parties, I have learned that offering a chocolate cake is a decision that rarely goes wrong.

People of all ages love chocolate, this we know, so doesn’t it make sense that we would use chocolate for life’s most special events? I am always in awe when people think that it is a good idea to make the menu for important parties entirely different from the things that people would normally eat. This is no way to keep people filled and satisfied. It is always wise to have at least a few things on a menu that people are familiar with and used to eating. Surprises are great, but not when it comes to a significant piece of the menu like the dessert. This is why a chocolate cake is the choice for all celebrations.

The whole point in planning great parties is for people to enjoy themselves. I guarantee that people of all ages and walks of life will enjoy a tasty chocolate cake. Now I am not suggested that you throw a couple of boxed cake mixes into the oven when you are planning your wedding, yet I am suggesting that you make the best chocolate cake possible because you know that everyone will love it.
