Foods for Better Health

A well balanced diet is the prime necessitate for a better health.

Intake of appropriate types and adequate amounts of foods and drinks to supply nutrition and energy for maintenance of body cells, tissues, and organs and to support normal growth and development comprises of what we call a BALANCED DIET.

A well-balanced diet acts to provide sources of energy and nutrition for optimal growth and development which in turn leads to better health.

The term “balanced” simply means that a diet adequately meets your nutritional needs while not providing any nutrients in excess. A balanced diet provides optimal protein and complex carbohydrate while containing only moderate amounts of sodium, fats, and simple sugars.

To achieve a balanced diet for a better health, you must consume a variety of foods from each of the food groups.

An unbalanced diet can cause problems with maintenance of body tissues, growth and development, brain and nervous system failure, as well as problems with bone and muscle systems.

The American Cancer Society recommends five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Mixing colors – eating from the rainbow – is a good way to think about healthy fruits and vegetables. Strive to eat red things – raspberries, red peppers cherries, tomatoes, and strawberries, yellow things – squash, yellow peppers, small portions of bananas and peaches, blue things – blueberries, purple things – plums, orange things – oranges, tangerines and yams, green things – peas, spinach and broccoli, etc.
