Raw Food Diet 101

The principle behind the popular Raw Food Diet is mostly to eat plants foods that are unprocessed and are not cooked. It is gaining a following because of it’s effective and “green” approach to dieting. This approach to dieting is also known as “raw foodism” or “rawism” and practitioners are sometimes referred to as “raw vegans”. The foods allowed for consumption under this routine would include (but are not limited to): any types of fruits, sprouts, veggies, nuts, sprouts, seeds, eggs, yogurt, and milk.

Raw Foodists and Sub-Categories
There are different types of raw foodists. There is the raw vegan, raw omnivore, fruitists, and the list goes on. Raw vegans are the largest portion of this raw craze– so we will focus primarily on this category. They believe that heating your greens over 115 degrees will cause it to lose valuable nutrients and lower the nutritional value. Many overweight practitioners have lost weight and are reaping the benefits of this vegan diet. The risk of heart disease is also reduced when you become a raw vegan.

Not for everybody
The raw vegan diet is not for everyone. Some opponents of this diet contend that uncooked foods are unhealthy. The diet, however, has been proven to work for many practitioners and shown to be quite beneficial. The rise in raw vegan dieters can be attributed to society’s recent change in attitude towards unhealthy foods and trans fats– which have recently been banned from restaurants.
