There is a way to eat a filling meal, satisfy your sweet tooth and stay slim and healthy at the same time. This is to incorporate more fruits into your daily diet. Fruits are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, supplying you with energy to keep you going. It is also rich in fibre, which is great in cleansing your system and helps you fill up fast and stay full. Eating more fruits than red meat can also significantly lower your cholesterol count and be quite friendly to your heart.

There are ways to get more fruit in your diet. The first is to make sure that you have a variety to choose from. There is a wide variety of succulent and delicious kinds to choose from. Key is to make sure that you have at least several kinds on hand, as to prevent you from getting tired of having the same taste all the time.

Second is to get creative. You may actually combine several fruits to come up with one unique taste. You can either eat combined fruits as it is, juice them or make it into a smoothie. Whichever way you do it, you are sure to have a refreshing and deliciously healthy meal.

Another way to get more fruits in your diet is to incorporate them to your cooked dishes. Fruits can also be added into your skewers together with vegetables and chicken or lamb. It will be great as additions to your kebabs. There are many recipes that taste great because of the addition of fruity taste. One good example is the Orange Chicken Stir Fry, it is easy to make and taste delicious.

Ingredients:
4 pcs Chicken breast fillet
2 mandarin oranges
½ teaspoon chili powder
½ cup dry sherry
1 tbsp cornstarch
Marinade chicken breast in squeezed orange juice, chili powder and dry sherry. Put in a pan and pour in the marinade mix, add cornstarch and bring to a boil.

Make your own fruit preserves and marmalade. Enjoy them for your breakfast or snacks with toasted bread or scones. You may also use it to top your salads, the combination of fruit and greens with thousand island dressing is absolutely yummy.

Always make sure that you have mixed cut up fruits in a container in your refrigerator. Bring it everywhere you go. It is a great snack alternative rather than buying greasy calorie loaded burgers. Top the fruits with yogurt for variety.

Eating healthy does not mean having to eat food that has no flavor. Fruits are a tasty alternative for a healthy diet.

These days eating is inevitable, we eat out for convenience, to socialize, or to just try something new. If you truly make a decision to change your eating habits and eat healthy, it is important to make sure that you can still eat out on occasion. Otherwise, you will likely not be able to sustain your diet on a long-term basis. Eating out without blowing your diet and feeling guilty is possible if you consider the following:

Plan ahead! If you know you are going to be heading to a restaurant in the next couple of days, try to eat better ahead of time. Don’t starve yourself, but have a salad for lunch if you know you may be having some extra calories at dinner.

Always drink a glass of water while you are waiting for your food. This will make you feel full faster, and help you not to overeat.

Avoid extra calories by skipping the free garlic bread, dinner rolls with butter, and/or breadsticks. These items can increase the calories, and fat of your meal without you even realizing it!

If possible, have a side salad, soup, or steamed vegetables with your meal instead of fries.

Always ask that the dressing, sauces, and gravies be put on the side, to ensure that you can control how much of it you are eating.

Avoid the creamy stuff whenever possible. Creamy sauces, salad dressings and pasta dishes often have more calories than other options.

Bring home the leftovers! Restaurant portion sizes are often far more than you should eat during one meal. Try to eat slow, and stop when you are full. Having a couple of extra bites when you are already full, just leads to discomfort, guilt, and extra calories.

Consider how the food is cooked and the ingredients! Try to avoid foods that are fried or deep fried. Also, try to stay away from a lot of the extras (ie. the bacon added for $0.99, the extra sour cream for $0.75, or the extra cheese for $1.99), this will save you money and calories! In addition, try to find dishes made with whole grains, or with lots of fruits and/or vegetables.

If you are eating more calories with dinner, try to shy away from too much alcohol. Alcohol can dramatically increase the calorie count of your meal, if you really want to drink, limit yourself to one or two glasses.

If you have to have dessert, share it! Generally dessert portions are very big, and you are usually already full, so have half of the calories by splitting the dessert with someone.

Let’s face it…it’s nice to eat out every once and a while! Why not try to make the experience as healthy as possible, without completely depriving yourself.

There are 12 foods that, if eaten on a regular basis, can improve your health. Do you know what they are?

If you’re reading this than you already have some knowledge of how important good nutrition is. I’m a big advocate of “you are what you eat.” Meaning, what you put in your body largely determines what you look like on the outside.

And if you make a serious effort to improve your eating habits, you will notice a positive change in how you look and feel. It’s not about perfection though. Thrive to make small changes to your diet over time and you’ll eventually be amazed at the will power you develop.

There are 12 foods that you should be eating on a regular basis. All have their own unique health benefits and if you mold your diet around the majority of these foods, you’ll notice an improvement in your health.

The list is as follows:

1. Almonds and other nuts – a great source of good fat.
2. Beans and legumes – a great source of fiber and protein.
3. Spinach and other green vegetables – a great source of phytonutrients and antioxidants.
4. Low-fat dairy – a great source of calcium and protein.
5. Oatmeal - a great source of fiber and protein.
6. Eggs – a great source of vitamin E and protein.
7. Turkey and other lean meats – a great source of protein.
8. Natural peanut butter – yes, this can be included under #1, but natural peanut butter makes eating nuts easier because you can spread it on wheat bread, bananas, celery, etc.
9. Olive oil - a great source of good fat.
10. Whole grain breads and cereals – a great source of fiber.
11. Extra protein – a great source of protein!
12. Raspberries and other berries - a great source of antioxidants.

All 12 foods above have a high nutritional value and should be incorporated into your daily snacks and meals. I personally bring the list with me food shopping and you might want to consider doing the same.

Everyone these days wants to find easy, low-carb recipes to build a healthy diet that is low in carbohydrates. With the recent low-carb craze, dieters can find information all over the place. Here are some guidelines to help you get what you want out of the low-carb phenomenon.

Whether you are searching the Internet, paging through a cookbook or digging through a friend’s pile of recipes, you need to keep in mind what it is that you want out of this diet. You should desire low-carb recipes that appeal to you, that will help you lose weight healthily, that you want to eat and that you can prepare without too big a headache.

Just because foods are low-carb and diet-friendly doesn’t mean they have to be bad or boring. You can find easy, low-carb recipes without sacrificing foods you enjoy. You can easily find recipes focusing on meat, poultry or seafood. You can find dozens of great ideas for breads, pastas, sauces and dips, as well as low-carb desserts and snacks. You can even have low-carb beer and other alcoholic beverages.

When preparing meals containing meats, be sure to choose carefully. As you make an effort to avoid carbohydrates, you will naturally move toward foods higher in protein. Many of these high-protein foods are our favorite meats, but many of these meats are also contain large amounts of fat. To get the best out of your diet, choose easy, low-carb recipes that call for lean meat, poultry or seafood. Even lean cuts of pork are better for you than meats like bacon and beef.

Breads are another area of interest in a low-carb diet. People are often surprised to learn that cutting breads out of their diet entirely is unnecessary. With an assault on carbohydrates in their diets, many people see breads as off limits. Books have even been written discussing how to live without bread.

Breads themselves are not bad, but some can certainly not low in carbohydrates. Many easy, low-carb recipes are available that allow you to enjoy sandwiches, burgers, toast or muffins. These recipes use a slightly different list of ingredients, but they yield healthy, tasty breads. Also, breads contain fiber, which is important to include in your diet.

Many recipes targeting a low-carb audience will specify nutritional information for the food, especially carbohydrate, protein and fiber content. This information is provided for a reason: as you probably know, foods low in carbohydrates and high in protein are central to the Atkins and other low-carb diets. Fiber is also a big part of the equation; simply put, you can have more carbs in your diet if they are in the form of fiber. Also, foods high in fiber are generally full of “good carbs,” the type of carbohydrates you don’t need to eliminate from your diet.

This brings up another good point: you don’t need to completely eliminate carbohydrates from your diet. Keeping some carbs in your diet is healthy and does not negatively affect your diet. Most low-carb recipes have at least some carbs. Instead of cutting out all carbohydrates, you should focus on minimizing or eliminating “empty carbs,” carbohydrates that come from foods with little or no nutritional value. Soft drinks and candy bard have empty carbs; fruits and vegetables, for example, have good carbs.

An important part of a low-carb diet is variety. You’re trying to limit carbohydrates, but that doesn’t mean you should eat eggs every day and avoid bread like the plague. Abide the guidelines for a healthy, low-carb diet: limit but don’t eliminate carbs, get plenty of fiber, make sure your protein-rich meats are not too full of fat.

Again, to easily sustain a healthy, low-carb lifestyle you should eat foods you enjoy. Low-carb foods should not be a burden. The list of diet-friendly choices has enough variety to make even the pickiest eaters happy. You have plenty of delicious, easy, low-carb recipes to choose from.

These days everyone seems to be looking for a healthy diet. Why? Because there is too much of stress in our lives as a result of which, lifestyles have changed and so have food habits. More and more people have opted for fast food or junk food that does more harm than good. In such an environment, the human body will not get any or proper nutrients and this will lead to diseases or medical problems like cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart problems etc.

The best way to fight it is by going on a healthy diet. Fruits are considered to be extremely healthy as they can provide you with important nutrients.

The need for fruits

If your diet consists of vegetables and fruits then it will automatically become a balanced diet plan and you will not develop conditions severe medical problems like coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, bone loss, type 2-diabetes, and cancer. Fruits have a high nutritional value, which will also reduce any risk of kidney stones.

The best way to have fruits is take them fresh and you can take them whole or even sliced. You can even do a little experimentation and transform your regular fresh fruit like blackberry or banana into special snacks or side dishes and then you can even add them in your desserts. If you are open to experimenting with fruits then here are some options that will not only keep your diet healthy but also add some flavors to it:

1. A spread with peach and honey: Take a bowl and add 1 sliced peach, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of honey. Mash all the three together using a fork until the mixture looks consistent in appearance. Serve it as a topping on French toast or pancakes or you can even serve it on grilled pork or roasted chicken.

2. Fruit slices: Fruits slices can be used for creating many dishes. One of the best ways to have fruit slices is by making a salad out of different fruits instead of vegetables. You can take slices of pears, apples, peaches and mangoes and then gently brush them with some canola oil. After wards sprinkle some cinnamon and place the bowl in skewers. Alternatively you can wrap it in a foil. Grill this fruit mixture in your over on low heat for around 3 to 5 minutes. Viola! you will have a great fruit mixture that is ready to eat.

3. Lemon fruit dip: The lemon fruit dip is a fairly uncommon dish. To prepare it, you will need to mix sugar-free lemon yogurt, 1/2 cup low-fat, 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice and a teaspoon of lime zest in a bowl. Add a few slices of pineapple, diced kiwi, strawberries, bananas and a few grapes. You can choose between black grapes and the green ones depending on your liking. You can serve it before meal or after meal. Either ways it will be good for health and great for taste.

4. Fruity pops: This is a great recipe that tastes good when served frozen. You will need a blender to do the job. Take some sliced bananas and strawberries and add 1/4 cup of orange juice as well as 3/4 cup of low-fat strawberry yogurt. Blend all the ingredients together and then pour them into a 2 to 3-ounce cups. Freeze the mixture for at least 3 hours and then serve.

5. The Banana-Blueberry Mix: This is quite simple to make and it will stir your taste buds. You can use a blender to mix 2 fresh bananas, 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries, and 1 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt. Once they have been mixed well, all you have to do is taste it.

6. Fresh strawberry salad: Talk about fruit salads and here is one. The ingredients that you will require are 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries and 2 cups romaine lettuce. Put them in the same bowl and add 1 1/2 teaspoon of raspberry vinaigrette as a dressing. Toss it well and then sprinkle some cashew nut on the top. It is ready to be served.

7. Mango salsa pizza: You may have never heard of this before but this is a great dish. You will have to start by mixing 1 cup of chopped green or red bell peppers, 1/2 cup of chopped mango, 1/2 cup of chopped onion, 1/2 cup of chopped pineapple, 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro and 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Spread the mix over your pizza crust and bake it at 4250F. Once the crust is brown, it will be ready to serve.

These are some of the fruit recipes that you can try at home. The important thing here is to eat healthy and be healthy!

The principle behind the popular Raw Food Diet is mostly to eat plants foods that are unprocessed and are not cooked. It is gaining a following because of it’s effective and “green” approach to dieting. This approach to dieting is also known as “raw foodism” or “rawism” and practitioners are sometimes referred to as “raw vegans”. The foods allowed for consumption under this routine would include (but are not limited to): any types of fruits, sprouts, veggies, nuts, sprouts, seeds, eggs, yogurt, and milk.

Raw Foodists and Sub-Categories
There are different types of raw foodists. There is the raw vegan, raw omnivore, fruitists, and the list goes on. Raw vegans are the largest portion of this raw craze– so we will focus primarily on this category. They believe that heating your greens over 115 degrees will cause it to lose valuable nutrients and lower the nutritional value. They also believe that the “life force” of the vegetables are lost when you cook them or overheat them.

Benefits of a Raw Vegan diet
The raw food diet has many benefits. Vegans report that they have increase energy and stamina. Their skin looks much healthier. Some report that their digestive system has improved greatly. Many overweight practitioners have lost weight and are reaping the benefits of this vegan diet. The risk of heart disease is also reduced when you become a raw vegan.

Not for everybody
The raw vegan diet is not for everyone. Some opponents of this diet contend that uncooked foods are unhealthy. The diet, however, has been proven to work for many practitioners and shown to be quite beneficial. The rise in raw vegan dieters can be attributed to society’s recent change in attitude towards unhealthy foods and trans fats– which have recently been banned from restaurants.

Change your life!
This new diet can literally change your life, if you properly follow the regimen. Make sure that your routine fits your lifestyle. Don’t let it interfere and if it does, you may want to consider stopping for awhile. Eating greens can really be healthy and the raw vegan diet is proof that if you stick with your raw plant diet, you too will lose weight. You will also gain many health benefits from this new craze. Now, go snack on some veggies and get fit.

Remember, before you start any new diet, consult with your physician first.

The consumption of carbohydrates, or the lack thereof, has been the focal point of many diets over the last several years. Certainly, fast results can be noted for those who nearly rid their diets of carbohydrates completely and follow a strict dietary regimen. If this particular diet isn’t followed consistently, however, the weight is quickly regained and the cycle must begin anew.

Carbohydrates are one of the three essential macronutrients, and are vital to maintaining your body’s health and nutrition. Red blood cells get all of their energy from carbohydrates, which is the body’s main carrier of oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. Additionally, carbohydrates fuel our brains and central nervous system, and are of paramount importance for neonatal development.

Of course, overconsumption of anything can be bad, including carbohydrates. If a person’s diet is both high in fat and high in carbohydrates, obesity may ensue. In 2002, a study of people following a high-carb, low-fat diet demonstrated that most of these people fell within the normal weight range.

Again, a high-fat, low-carb diet as the recent trend tells you to follow may help to achieve some amazing results in the short term, but the side effects could be worse for you in the long run. A diet that is too low in carbs can lead to malnutrition, even when supplemented with vitamins, fiber and other supplements.

Some foods are higher in carbs before digestion than they are once the cycle is complete, which is attributed to many factors, among them dietary fiber content. Dietary fiber is a form of carbohydrates that cannot be digested, but provides other health benefits.

A new trend in meeting the needs of both sides of this debate is taking a look at the glycemic index value of the food in question. The glycemic index measures how the food item in question specifically affects blood sugar levels, rather than calling foods either simple or complex carbohydrates. To find out the glycemic index of many of your favorite foods, visit http://www.carbs-information.com/glycemic-index.htm.

The best thing we can all do for ourselves is eat a well-balanced diet. Food is our fuel and can be the source of our energy, vitality, and even pleasure. Consuming higher-quality organic and whole foods, controlling portions, and doing so several times throughout the day is going to help you become more in tune with your body than any fad diet ever will.

Eating soy foods can help you live longer. Although a few experts disagree with this, but I found this on the respected online sources show that traditional soyfoods, especially those with live cultures, correlate with reduced risks of several diseases without negative side effects. But the greatest benefit comes from using soy foods to replace a huge fraction of the diet that usually filled by high sources of saturated fats.

Don’t just add soy milk, soy shakes and soy based cream toppings to your diet. Instead, replace 40 to 60 percent of your red meats with tofu, miso, tempeh, edamame etc. Also use baked, broiled, or grilled chicken, fish, and other foods that are not fried.

Soy Beans are unique in the vegetable world, they provide all of the “essential” amino acids (proteins) and fatty acids that the human body can not produce, plus a number of “plant hormones” that protect against various ailments, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancers, memory loss, menopause, osteoporosis, PMS, stroke.

You see a great deal about the benefits of living a healthier life-style. They’re all over the media … just about everywhere you look. You can’t turn around without hearing about low carb diets, such as The Atkins diet, the South Beach Diet, The Zone Diet, and dozens of other healthy eating marketing infos for slimming and other benefits.

Healthy eating has always been an critical factor in making a healthy mind and a healthy body, and a healthy spirit. That has never been truer than it’s today. One of the reasons you see more about eating healthy adveryisments and products today is because, thanks to the discoveries of innovative medicine-—experts now acknowledge much more about the direct and right benefits of making healthy food choices.

What does the term “healthy diet” means? Eating healthy is nothing more than making sensible food choices each and every day. Generally, a healthy diet is just about keeping things in balance. It is also one that…

is moderate in complex carbohydrates, such as beans, vegetables, and grains
is low in fat, especially saturated fat and cholesterol

includes protein, such as meat, poultry, fish, and tofu

is high in fiber, which is in fresh vegetables and fruits as well as whole-grain breads and some cereals

is low in sugary foods and sweets
includes only moderate amounts of alcohol<

To have a healthy life style, changing your eating habits must be for retains. Healthy eating can not be something you do for just a few days, weeks, or even months. Yes, you may enjoy a few short-term benefits. But if you would like to lower your risk for sickness and disease and have a healthy body, the changes you make must be ones that you can stick to for the lifetime.

The common buzzwords that we see in magazines, TV cooking shows, and in the media are “Good Fats” and “Bad Fats”. But what are they ? And, why is one type good and the other bad ?
Our bodies create some important substances out of fats and also use fat to store and transport various vitamins around our bodies. Fats also help with sugar and insulin metabolism and can therefore contribute towards goals of long-term weight loss and weight maintenance. So fat is an essential part of a healthy diet. And fat makes food taste better. However, not all fats are created equal – there are good fats and there are also bad fats.

The problem is that fat contains more than twice the calories of an equal amount of carbohydrates or protein. A diet with too much fat (and/or sugar) can cause weight gain, leading to obesity and a range of serious health issues. A diet low in fat (and sugar) can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.

Too much fat (particularly saturated fat and trans fat) in our diet has been linked to a range of diseases, including heart disease and some cancers. Store shelves are now lined with virtually fat-free potato chips, luncheon meats, and cookies, all concocted so people can literally have their cake and eat it too. However, beware – a product that claims to be low in fat may still be high in sugar.

Being “fat-healthy” isn’t just about avoiding the saturated fats found in meat. It’s about making sure you’re eating a good balance of the right kinds of fats.
